Overview
During the 2025 NBA Playoffs, I played a key role in launching the NBA’s official Bluesky account, driving both the content strategy and publishing approach. Since then, the account has grown to nearly 50K followers and published over 1K posts, positioning the NBA as an early adopter on one of the fastest-emerging social platforms in the sports sector.
My Role
Helped plan and execute the content strategy tailored for Bluesky’s audience.
Managed real-time publishing, ensuring posts aligned with the NBA’s brand voice and fan engagement goals.
Monitored early trends and community behavior to adjust strategy as the platform evolved.
Challenges
New Platform Dynamics: With limited benchmarks, we had to experiment to understand what resonated.
Community Building: Growing a fan base from zero meant prioritizing content that felt authentic and conversational.
Real-Time Adaptation: Bluesky’s culture and features were still developing, requiring constant adjustments in tone and format.
Highlights & Results
Rapid Growth: Reached nearly 50K followers in just a few months.
Content Output: Over 1K posts published since launch, keeping fans engaged daily.
High Engagement: The account peaked with a post that earned 6.3K+ likes, showing the NBA’s ability to stand out even in a new ecosystem.
Takeaways
Launching on a new platform like Bluesky required creativity, adaptability, and a willingness to test and learn. By balancing the NBA’s established voice with the platform’s unique culture, we built a strong foundation for future growth and fan connection.
